There’s no denying that coffee is everywhere. It’s difficult to find a street in London that doesn’t hold host to a bunch of different cafes. I’ve worked with coffee for a few years, beginning as a complete caffeine-phobe to now having an appreciation and genuine interest in the world of beans. My coffee background consisted of grabbing quick sugary lattes to get over hangovers and bad instant sachets to get through the 4am slump of dissertation writing. Bzz..bzz.. My first experience of eating honey made by Ann-Marie Eve, came only hours after being stung in five places by the bees who made it. It may sound odd, but I felt closer to the bees and the honey tasted just as sweet. Ann-Marie moved out of London to her cottage in Bray six years ago and has been producing honey from wooden hives at the end of her garden ever since. After being visited by Alain Roux, her 20 hives now supply The Waterside Inn with honey for it’s best dishes. Not bad for a self-taught beekeeper who learnt through reading books, eh? For the Waterside Inn’s new magazine, I spent the day with Michel Roux travelling around London while he promoted his new book ‘The Essence of French Cooking’. The above photo is one of my favouritea, it was the moment he received a phone call to tell him The Waterside Inn had held it’s 3 Michelin Stars for 30 years, the first restaurant to do so.

I photographed a day in Miranda Gore Browne’s kitchen with the ‘Jam Mistress’, Vivien Lloyd. The Monday aptly fell on National Marmalade week and was a day of all things orange. With Viv’s marmalade skills teaching how to make the perfect preserve, and Miranda showing how versatilely marmalade can be used within baking. I even got to take a jar home to post to my Grandpa in Thailand (it’s his favourite and it’s just not the same out there.. lots of bubble wrap was used). Orangey goodness.
